What is Industrial Deafness / Noise Induced Hearing Loss?

Deafness / Noise Induced Hearing Loss, is the loss of hearing suffered by a person as a result of excessive and prolonged noise, usually occurring in the workplace.

There is a subtle difference between an employer exposing an employee to excessive noise and employers failing to provide adequate hearing protection when dealing with Deafness / Noise Induced Hearing Loss claims.

Employees can in some circumstances work with excessive levels of noise for certain periods of time, so long as they are provided with adequate hearing protection. Unfortunately, it is far too often the case that this is not provided, causing employees to suffer Deafness / Noise Induced Hearing Loss.

However, it does not end there. Employers may provide hearing protection but there may be little or no supervision or enforcement of its use. The Noise at Work Regulations are designed to prevent Deafness / Noise Induced Hearing Loss in the workplace.
